DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST OF
ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER (LAW) IN GRADE A - 1 (SR.)

The Assistant General Manager (Law) is responsible to the Management for the smooth and efficient
working of the Legal Department and co-ordinating the work of all the Officers and Staff in the department.
the duties and responsibilities of the Assistant General Manager (Law) are as follows :-
He is required to -
i) supervise the work relating to the B.E.S. & T. Undertaking's Court cases in the Supreme Court, High Court, City Civil Court, Small Causes Court Police Court, Industrial/Labour Court, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal;
ii) appear before Statutory Authority such as Commissioner of Police Electrical Inspector, Appellate Authority under the Indian Electricity Act, State Commission under the Consumers Production Act in respect of electrical cases;
iii) deal with matters before the State Electricity Regulatory Commission, Appellate Tribunal For Electricity, New Delhi and matters pertaining to Power Purchase Agreement Cross Subsidy from Electriccity to Transport, Open access system, etc.;
iv) deal with matters before authorities under the Payment of Wages Act, Minimum Wages act, Workman's Compensation Act, Payment of Gratuity Act, Employee's State Insurance Act, etc.;
v) scrutinize the judgements and orders in the various Court matters and advise the Management regarding further proceeding in these matters;
vi) advise various Departments of the Undertaking with regard to Court matters. He has to prepare cases for obtaining opinion of the Advocate General or Senior Council as and when required by the Management and discuss the matters in conference with them;
vii) give instructions to authorities and Retainer Advocate in respect of cases sent to them;
viii) He has to appear before the Arbitrator in Civil Engineering matters of the Undertaking;
ix) Any other duties that may be assigned to him by the General Manager from time to time.
