DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
Deputy Medical Superintendent the second in command in the Tuberculosis Services to the Medical
Superintendent has to be conversant with the overall activities of the Tuberculosis services, i.e. each and every aspect of the day to day routine as well as emergency / urgent work, planning and the development. The routine office matters, day to day hospital administration (with all the sections inclusive), matters pertaining to the establishments (i.e. pertaining to appointments, promotions, leave / substitute arrangements, disciplinary action etc.) Central Stores and Dead-Stock, Pathology Laboratory, Medical Stores, X-Ray Deptt. etc. have to be supervised through the concerned sectional heads. The matters pertaining to the Labour and Nurses' Union have to be handled with the assistance of Administrative Officer, Office Superintendent and Assistant Medical Officers, who are given the total and complete responsibility of the relevant sections. Thus, with the help of C.M.Os., A.O., O.S., M.Os., O.R.M. and Others, the Dy-medical
Superintendent is in a position to manage the supervisory duties entrusted.
1) To supervise the work of the attendance of the following staff :-
i) C.M.O.s., A.O., O.S., and Matron
ii) a) Resident Medical Staff
b) Honorary Medical Staff
iii) M.R.O., O.R.M., M.S.W. and H.P.
The staff at Sr.Nos. (i) and (ii) (a)-(b) to be supervised directly and the staff at Sr. No.(iii) to be supervised with the assistance of C.M.Os. concerned. To inspect the field works of outdoor staff. To grant the Leave and make substitute arrangements within delegated powers and to attend to their grievances.
2) To assist M.S. (GTB) in the various expansion plans and the development schemes and time-to time follow-up or perusal of the same. To attend to all the duties of M.S. (GTB) during his absence.
3) To attend to the notes, letters and enquires regarding patients and dealing with their problems in
accordance with the rules.
4) To attend to routine administrative work pertaining to all the T.B. Clinics and their requirements including grant of leave all the staff within the delegated powers and to make the suitable substitute arrangement.
5) Routine correspondence with the outside parties / patients and other Municipal Departments / Institutions such as C.A., A.O. (E). W.O.s, etc. and to attend to the disposal to the time limit cases and audit notes with the assistance of the concerned Officer.
6) To supervise and check O.P.D., follow-up system and records etc. and to exercise the control over the admission and discharge system with the assistance of the Sr.Medical staff including Physician (Fulltime) and Asst. Physician (Full-time).
7) To attend to the clinical and teaching work of the Medical Unit of M.S. (GTB) with the assistance of Resident Medical Staff.
8) To take surprise rounds in the hospital during and outside the duty hours and take prompt necessary corrective action wherever necessary.
DUTY HOURS :
From 8.30. A.M. to 1.00 P.M. and from 2.30 P.M. to 4.00 P.M.
