Name of the Post - Senior Scientific Officer (Public Analyst), Maharashtra Medical & Health Services, Group - A
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
1) a) He shall be in over all charge of Food/Water section in State Public Health Laboratory, Pune.
b) Similarly he shall be in over all charge of both Food & Water Sections in case of Regional; Public
Health Laboratories. He shall be responsible for all technical and administrative duties in his section/ sections and maintain discipline therein.
2) He shall function as Public Analyst and perform all duties prescribed under the P.F.A. Act and Rules.
3) He shall function as Government Analyst and perform all duties prescribed under the Maharashtra
Prevention of water Pollution Act and Rules.
4) He shall attend courts as expert witness in food adulteration, water pollution and other cases.
5) He shall answer all technical, administrative and other queries.
6) He shall be responsible for the receipt and safe custody of the samples, their analysis, preservation
and disposal as necessary.
7) He shall ensure that samples received under statutory provisions of different Acts are analyzed and
reported within the stipulated time. All other samples (Not under the Act) will be analyzed expeditiously and reports forwarded without delay.
8) He shall maintain various technical registers, documents, protocols, work diaries etc. and submit
reports / returns etc. from time to time as required by higher authorities.
9) He shall maintain Registers for Breakage/Unserviceable articles/ consumable/ non consumable/ dead stock etc. as required for Audit and other purposes and give six monthly and yearly certificates.
10) He shall determine the requirements of Chemicals, Glassware, Instruments, equipments, stationery etc. required by the section/ sections. It will then be his responsibility to supervise the preparation of proposals/ indents/ quotations/ comparative statements etc. by the ministerial staff concerned. They will be finally put up to the Head of the Institution through the Chief Technical Officer/ Head of office for sanction.
11) He will be responsible for the proper maintenance of all instruments in his section/ sections.
12) He will be responsible for quality control checks in analytical work.
13) He will introduce new methodology and standardize tastes of food/water analysis.
14) He will carry out surveys for laying down food/water standards.
15) He will assign appropriate technical and administrative duties to the officers and other staff under his control.
16) He shall carry out any other duties assigned by higher authorities.
